Introduction:
Eccentricity of rotating shafts is a typical source of undesired vibrations, which becomes particularly relevant at high angular velocities. The most obvious strategy to mitigate them is to reduce the eccentricity, however, this is not always possible.Dynamic vibration absorbers are an excellent device for passively mitigate undesired vibration, which is extensively used in real engineering applications.
The objective of this thesis is to investigate the performance of a dynamic vibration absorber for the suppression of vibrations generated by eccentricity, by placing the vibration absorber directly on the rotating shaft.
Tasks:
- study the basic concepts about vibrations of rotating shafts generated by eccentricity- study the state of the art of the methods for mitigating vibrations generated by eccentricity of rotating shafts
- study the state of the art of dynamic vibration absorbers
- define a mechanical model for the system and derive its equations of motion
- study analytically and numerically the system
- draw conclusions about the effectiveness of the device
- define an optimization strategy for the system parameters
